The 5th border brigade was transformed to become Gruppe Brugg with the operational order No 12. The battle group had to secure the border on the Rhine river between Laufenburg (excl) and Klingnau (incl) and to block the Wasserschloss area between Brugg and Baden. In addition the group had to block the Bözberg.

The border regiment 51 was detached (to 5. Div) and the infantry regiment 4 from 5. Div was attached. In addition the ad hoc regiment Bözberg and one artillery battalion from 5. Div was attached. Later 3 120mm batteries (12 older 12 cm guns) and 8 84mm batteries (32 older guns) were added.
