The 3rd border brigade had to cover the border between the Clos-du-Doubs and Kleinlützel (excl). Its main task was to block the Rangiers pass. The batallions of the Hölstein regiment had to block axis Moutier - Court - Tavannes South of Moutier and the Weissenstein axis.
The ad hoc regiment Hölstein was attached to the brigade. The brigade had no artillery attached.
