[Task and Position] [Order of Battle]
The 12th mountain brigade had an actual strength which was equal to a division. Its task was to defend the Eastern approaches to the St. Gotthard pass and the passes in the Grisons. With the initial operational order No 12 the brigade remained attached to 4th corps, later it was attached to 5th corps which was formed from the reinforced 9th division.
