The 1st division had to block the Northwestern entry to the Central area on the line Rocher-de-Naye - Gruyeres - Vaulruz.
The division was reinforced with two territorial infantry regiments in addition the heavy artillery regiment 22 (from reinforced 1. Div) was located in its sector.
In his report of 17. September 1940 the general mentioned, that the division had been converted to mountain service and the appropriate material was being distributed.
