4. Panzerdivision

The 4. Panzerdivision was a veteran unit which already participated at the Polish campaign in 1939. It was assigned to 6th Army during the initial attack on France and then assigned to the 2nd army in July 1940. It remained in France until December 1940 West of Auxerre. Afterwards it was transferred to the Reich.

Commanding General: Generalleutnant Johann Joachim Stever until 24. Juli 1940, then Generalleutnant Hans Freiherr von Boineburg-Lengsfeld until 7. September 1940, and then General der Panzertruppen Willibald Freiherr von Langermann und Erlencamp.

The Panzerregiment 36 was transferred to the 14. PD in October 1940.

The division was equipped with Panzer II, III and IV.
