The Operationsbefehl Nr. 1 put the army into a position to defend Swiss neutrality against all sides. The three corps held sectors in the original areas. Two divisions (Division 3 and Division 8) were assigned as army reserves. The defense of the central area was subordinated directly to the general headquarters.
