Swiss 4th Border Brigade (Gz Br 4) - May 10, 1940

[Task and Position] [Order of Battle]

Task and Position

The 4th border brigade had the task to cover the Rhine river between Birsfelden (just SE of Basel) and Stein AG (Säckingen). It played an important role in the French plan "H", since it had to delay an enemy advance on the right flank of the division Gempen until the French VIIe corps d'armée had joined its position on the Gempen plateau.

Order of Battle

With its nine infantry batallions, the 4th border brigade was as big as the standard Swiss divisio, but was missing the indirect fire support, just as the other border brigades. One of his infantry regiments was under orders of the division Gempen.

A part of its position would have been under the cover of the artillery of the 4th division.
